still have a substantial amount of lab work to do for the project - processing
artifacts. We will be scheduling lab times at Fort Douglas Museum in the
near future. Is there interest in doing a USAS evening or Sat. in the lab
for this project? I will let you know what is scheduled. Meanwhile,
please contact Jane Stone new_horizons_js@hotmail.com if interested in
participating in lab work, as we have the potential to customize the schedule
to members' availability.
Nine Mile Canyon Coalition Annual meeting, Sept. 11-12, 2009,
in Nine-Mile Canyon. For information on the canyon and the organization,
as well as past newsletters, see:
http://ninemilecanyoncoalition.org. For information on the Sept.
gathering, please contact Pam Miller 9milepam@gmail.com or Deanne Matheny
yache@aol.com.
For those who have not attended before, the organizers arrange access to
impressive rock art/sites on private land that are usually not open to the
public. They usually have several levels of difficulty in access, so
there is something for everyone. There is a very nice campground at the
meeting site and some rooms too.
URARA (Utah Rock Art Association) Annual meeting:
The URARA 2009 Symposium will be held on October 9-12 in Cedar City, Utah.
Presentations will be given October 10 and 11. Tours of archaeological sites
are planned for the other days. See http://www.utahrockart.org/ for
details.
See recent issues of Vestiges
for details as they become available. The link to the August 2009 issue
of Vestiges with details of the Symposium is:

The same web link lists several other URARA activities this fall that may be of
interest (near the end).
Range Creek: We recently had an e-mail indicating that there
may be some opportunities in the canyon this fall. I suggest contacting
Renee Barlow for information: Office: 801 957-3303 Email:
renee.barlow@slcc.edu If others have better contact
information, please send it to Jill.
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at U of U: Osher is a
learning and social community within the University for the "mature" (over 50)
crowd. This fall 6-week classes begin Sept. 14, and there are a few
courses (no tests, no grades, no required homework) of possible interest to our
members:
Link: http://continue.utah.edu/osher/results.php?subject=osher
Osher offers many other benefits, including the ability to get a student ID,
student discounts, use of campus facilities, including the library and gym,
free transit pass, .....
Also, Osher needs instructors in just about any field, if you have ideas for
courses to offer!
